About Me

Welcome to The Other Road Counseling! My name is Mallorie Smolen and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Colorado and Connecticut.

I invite children, adolescents, and adults to my practice. I have more than six years of experience and am trained in the following areas: Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Play Therapy, Sensory Integration Therapy, disruptive behaviors, family conflict, and mindfulness. I have extensive training in a variety of areas and if what you’re looking for isn’t listed, please reach out to me to see if I can support your needs. As a clinician, I believe it’s important to be a lifelong learner. I engage in ongoing supervision and attend professional development training to promote my growth as a clinician.

I can also incorporate non-traditional practices during your session. If you feel comfortable I enjoy implementing holistic modalities. Interventions include yoga, mindfulness, essential oils, playing singing bowls, affirmations, mantras, and knowledge about chakras. Learning about yourself is very important in your journey!

My true purpose as a clinician is to build a trusting relationship with my client that allows them to feel safe when exploring their thoughts and feelings. I truly enjoy meeting new clients wherever they are on their own journey. Every person that I encounter teaches me something new. I believe we all have stories that can help heal not only ourselves but also others. I strive to create a safe place (virtually or in-person) that will allow each individual to share their story and allow the person to transform into their authentic self! The space that we create will allow your transformation to occur.

Are you ready to heal past and current wounds? Everyone has wounds. We all have a story. I work with individuals to discover who they truly are through open and honest engagement. I invite you to learn how you will transform by engaging in future session with me. Please click on the wounds link to inquire more about your transformation.

Do you struggle with identifying what you are truly passionate about? Do you feel like you criticize yourself or someone else is criticizing you inside your mind? Feelings of low self-worth can lead to depression. I have experience with individuals who experience low self-worth. Together we will develop skills to transform your life. Your self-esteem will increase and your inner critic will diminish. If you would like more information about how your self-worth will increase please click on the self worth link!

Do you constantly have worries running through your mind? Do you feel like you cannot stay in the present moment and are constantly thinking about the past or future situations? Do you know how it feels to really relax? Together, in session, we will discover the root cause of these thoughts and we will learn skills to alleviate your symptoms. The skills you learn will help you with day-to-day stressors. Here’s what they are saying:

“Mallorie gave me the kind of support, thoughtful and perceptive suggestions, and provided the kind of reflective environment that helped me see for myself how to make positive changes moving forward. I was always impressed how invested she was in my story. She remembered so many details session to session, the depth of her familiarity with all the little working parts of my life helped make her guidance spot on. She was supportive, encouraging, and forgiving. Giving me space to process my own emotions and empowering me to make improvements. I am so grateful for our time together.”
